HOW OUR SERVICES WORK
Currently, Bear Essential is only servicing within
the city limits of Lethbridge.

Bear Essential will come to your home
for a one on one consultation to meet you and your pet and discuss those grooming needs that are best suited for your canine companion. This could include all or some of the following:

- A simple brush out.
- Shampoo and conditioning.
- Hand blow dryed (no kenneling or tethering).
- Hair cut or trim.
- Ears, nails and pads.
- Full body massage.
Bear Essential will not express anal glands and it is our recommendation that this always be done by your veterinarian - not by the groomer. All dogs have 2 sets of anal glands, an outer and an inner, and it's best the procedure of "expressing" be done by your vet in the event that there is a problem, the vet will be able to quickly diagnose it and remedy the situation before it becomes a serious and costly health risk.
I always get asked how long does it take to groom? In order to answer that honestly, a few things need to be considered:
- What condition the coat is in?
- The length of the coat?
- The size of the dog?
- Last and probably most important - how well does the dog like to be groomed?
It's been my belief and experience that the more relaxed a dog is, the better the groom is for them and less stressful as well. Grooming a relaxed dog most certainly cuts down on the groom time. Trying to groom a stressed dog is like trying to do a painting while someone is holding the canvas, and they keep moving it.
Here are a few tips to help you make your puppy or dog enjoy their day at the spa:
- Prior to the groom, try running your fingers through their fur deeply so that it has a massage like feel to it.
- Be sure to gently handle and rub their ears and paws. Most dogs are sensitive when it comes to their ears and paws but with your touch they'll come to know it as a pleasant feeling.
- Be sure to brush them out 2 - 3 times a week. By doing this they become use to the sensation by the time the spa arrives at their home.
- And my best tip - when doing all of the above be sure to give your dog lots of love and praise. A little TLC goes a long way!
